Fashion has always played a huge part in the lives of women throughout the world. It is all about having the right shoes, the right bag, and the right outfit, but right along with the style is the hairdo. Women have been inventing new ways to wear their hair along with new techniques and product to help them achieve their new look. Over time however, women have discovered that utilizing too many different types of treatments, like blow-drying, straightening, curling, and the constant use of products, can leave a hair dry and brittle. Of course, in retaliation to these damaging effects, many companies have produced a number of new products that focus on re-hydrating and mending damaged hair. Many women have found even better ways to protect their hair from the damaging side effects that occur, by investing in wigs. With a wig, a woman can have it styled any way she wants, whenever she wants. As such, rather than having a single cut to style, she has thousands of different looks at her disposal. However, some women out there have not looked into this new alternative because they have heard that wigs are made of poor quality synthetic hair, or they have personally had a bad experience with a synthetic wig. Due to the grand advances in the wig industry over the last couple of years, it is time to try wigs again. Many companies are now selling wigs made of real human hair that has either been donated or sold to a wig making company. This allows women to manage their wigs as if it was their own hair because these wigs work with treatments and products in the same manner. It is a lot of fun to be able to change a look on a whim, and if a woman does not like it, she is not stuck with that look until her hair grows back. In addition to wigs, the hair extension pieces have risen in popularity. With one of these pieces, a woman can make her own hair seem thicker or longer with a snap-on piece of hair. As with the wig, these pieces are available in a variety of different lengths and colors, and are made of real hair.
Josephine L. Carlson has always been a stickler on keeping up with the current styles and fashions, in both apparel and hair. After exposing her hair to a variety of different treatments and products, she decided that she no longer wanted to expose her hair to any more damaging elements. Therefore, she did a little internet searching and research she decided to purchase her first wig, and Ms. Carlson has been investing in wigs ever since. She now has a collection ranging from long to short wigs in a variety of different cuts and colors. Whenever she feels the urge to change it up a bit, she simply pulls out a different wig.

If you are like so many other people who are looking to do something about their hair loss then you may be considering purchasing and wearing a lace front wig. Perhaps you have been using some sort of hair regrowth treatment and come to the same conclusion that so many others have and that is that its a lot of time and expense, for limited if any results. More Good NewsThe good news, is that todays lace front wigs are available in a wide range of styles made from a number of fibers including human hair and much more realistic than ever looking synthetics. More good news, is that when a quality front lace wig is properly attached, it is virtually indistinguishable from a real head of hair, even on close inspection. Treat it Like Your Own HairPart it as you may, fling it around in the wind and even sleep in it if you have to, because if you have a top quality lace front wig on, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. One particular group of people that are truly benefiting from the easy availability of high quality front lace wigs online, is people with tight bushy hair and people in the market for hair extensions. Hair Extensions and StraighteningHair straightening and extensions are both expensive and tend to have a very rate of customer approval. That is that if you have your hair straighted or lengthened there is a god chance that you will be less that satisfied with the finished results. Also, your treatment only last for so long and if you have both of them done, you can easily expect to spend at least a thousand dollars. No Appointment NecessaryThis is why virtually all of the famous celebrities that you see on your TV and in the magazines that you read own and use lace front wigs, rather than subject their hair to any of these punishing treatments. Also, it only takes a very short time to apply a lace front wig and you don’t need to make an appointment.

French top wigs are a definite throw back but are making a huge come back as the manufacturers have figured out how to make them faster and more economically than in the past. A French top wig is basically a machine or hand tied wig with a special French top added. The French top has an esthetically pleasing appearance that literally looks as though hair is coming straight from the scalp. The French Top consists of several layers of material with the top layer being a synthetic silk type material that has the appearance of skin because of its tight weave. The hair is ventilated / tied into a lower layer and the hair is pulled through the top layer of synthetic silk one hair at a time for a truly natural appearance. Another method has the hair injected into the synthetic silk, one hair at a time, and then the hair is laminated to the underside of the lace using a soft adhesive material that will not bleed through the material and will allow the hair to move naturally on the head. The French Top is then connected to the balance of the wig and finished off for a smooth natural appearance. The French Top can also be downsized to just a part area but the technique has not been done for entire wig as the hair does come straight out of the material and would not lay down correctly on the sides and back. The French Top and Part has been around for many years and they were originally made by wig makers only. The technique has been done in mass production but the intricacies of the work prohibited it from being done in mass. The French Tops and Parts are all strictly hand made one at a time. Recently we have see the French Tops showing up in the Jewish market for the wigs worn by the Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish women who by tradition and for religious reasons always have their heads covered. There are few wig makers who still work making the French tops and parts but those that do are not at a loss for work. The single hand made French top is still a beautiful work of art and the person who has the honor of owning and wearing one will proudly admit what it is if asked. For the rest of us, we may need to stick to the ready made wig with the French Top or Part added and the consumer will know it as soon as they see it. You cannot believe how realistic the French Top and Part can be and with the new techniques and materials they are not only lovely to look at but extremely comfortable on the scalp with the smooth silk like underlay which is some times finished with a quilted effect. Look for this in a top quality wig shop and note the fine workmanship and usually very good quality hair that is used for the wig. This is the ultimate for any wig wearer.

The term wig is a shorter version of the word periwig which first appeared as an English term back in the 1600s. A wig is a head of hair made from any of the following materials:
 Real human hair
 Horse hair
 Feathers
 Buffalo hair
 Yarn
 or Synthetic materials
Wigs are worn for many reasons. They are worn mainly for fashion; some due to aesthetics; some to hide a balding head; while a handful are worn to portray roles in films or plays.
The Creation of this Great Hairpiece
There are currently two methods of making wigs-the traditional method and machine manufacturing. The traditional way of creating wigs is focused on producing finer wigs for film and theatrical presentations. Wigs that are machine manufactured are much cheaper and are often not custom-made.
1. The very first step to creating customized wigs is to take the measurement of the wearer’s head. Real hair should be tied in tight knots all around the head before the measurement is taken. Once the knots are in place, measurement is taken and recorded. There are some wig manufacturers who make a copy of the head. They do this by wrapping clear plastic on the person’s head and putting the necessary markings. This is a more detailed approach to wig-making as it captures the natural markings of the person’s hairline. The wigform is based on the markings and measurements.
2. Once the wigform has been set, the wig netting or wig lace is placed over it. Wig netting is made of a fine lace of polygonal cells. This can be made from fibers that are either natural or synthetic. The edges have finer laces just so they could blend with the facial skin. The heavier lace is placed at the center to provide maximum support. The lace is the part of the wig that has to be trimmed and properly sewn to achieve the proper shape of the wearer’s head.
3. The materials that are used in making wigs vary in their sources, length, texture and color. The manufacturer of the wig chooses from a variety of hair when he starts to make the hairpiece. The design also dictates the type of material that will be used for the wig. The chosen material is then aligned in a hackle which is a device that is used to straighten hair. This tool also weeds out the weaker strands of hair which are not fit for wig-making. If there is more than one material to be used, this device will also even out the varieties.
4. The term used to refer to the tying of hair strands into a wig lace is ventilation. The hair is folded into half so that the strands can be taken off from the center. A wig hook is used to take strands of hair and tie them slowly into a lace. This hook is bent to come up with the best ventilation knots. Since wig-making is all about lacing, folding and tying knots, the actual length of the hair strand is twice the length of the finished wig. The center of the wig has the most number of hair strands while the edges have finer hair.
5. The next step is to fashion the wig into the desired style.
6. Once the wearer tries the wig on, any strand of wig that does not fall into its place is cut. This is the only time that the wigmaker can finally say that the hairpiece is ready to be used.

An innovative nonsurgical hair replacement solution specifically designed for medical hair replacement applications was released by a Chicago-based hair loss solutions company, White Cliffs Hair Studio. The so-called “HRD” or “Hair Reconstruction Device” hair system – a state-of-the-art Cancer Wig – answers the unique needs of those in the Chicago area who have suffered impermanent hair loss due to Cancer treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy. “This is not like the simple Cancer wigs that all of the Chicago hair replacement studios are currently offering,” says Paul Sandor, owner and operator of White Cliffs’ Chicago hair replacement studio. “Our HRD Cancer wig is sturdy and durable and exactly duplicates the patient’s hair to what it looked like before the hair loss occurred. “More importantly, the HRD Cancer wig, while only a temporary solution until a patient’s hair grows back, can be adhered to the patient’s head for extended periods of time. This allows the patient to perform all normal living activities while wearing the HRC Cancer wig including exercising and showering and sleeping. According to Sandor, the process is a simple one. “After the diagnosis, the patient comes into our studio before the radiation or chemo treatment, the earlier the better. We will then design the hair system, or “Cancer wig” to exactly duplicate the patient’s hair as it is before she loses that hair,” says Sandor. “We’re talking about the hair texture, color, density, part and hairline. The works. “For many years, medical experts have insisted that Cancer patients who are able to go through the process of the difficult treatments, like radiation and chemotherapy, will heal faster and easier if they look in the mirror and see a healthier self looking back at them. Linda Sweeny of Round Lake Beach, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, lost her hair after chemotherapy. “I never saw myself looking so ill,” said Sweeny. “The hospital helped me with my hair system while I was still being treated. When I came home, I never had to see myself without hair and neither did my children. In the end, it allowed us all to feel better. Because I was able to live in this particular Cancer wig, I didn’t have to wear a non-custom wig that altered my appearance in a different way and my neighbors and co-workers never knew I was sick. That’s how I wanted it. “Sandor is quick to point out that even the best, most expertly made Cancer wigs can only be as good as the professionals who maintain it for the patients throughout the process. “The FDA has listed our solution as an acceptable prosthetic for this application,” says Sandor. “But even more important than that is the level of training our staff has undertaken to apply these Cancer wigs to a patient so that it looks natural and undetectable. “The White Cliffs Chicago hair replacement staff is highly trained and that, along with their natural talent and compassion for this very special group of clients, is allowing White Cliffs Hair Studio of Chicago to offer Cancer patients something unique and different that actually works helps them not just to look better but to feel better.
